Asad Tariq, MD, MS is a lecturer at McCombs School of Business where he teaches Fundamentals of Health IT and Intro to Health Informatics in the HIHIT program. He is also the Director of Physician and Community Optimization for Baptist Health, a multi-hospital health system comprising of five hospitals, 200 primary care & specialty physician practices, children’s specialty clinics, home health care, behavioral health, occupational health, rehabilitation services, and urgent care clinics. In this role, he functions as a clinical IT leader overseeing optimization projects for the entire enterprise.
Dr. Tariq is a seasoned clinical informatics leader with extensive experience in clinical information systems design and Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation, administration, and optimization. He has held numerous leadership positions across various healthcare delivery organizations including leading quality improvement, clinical application design, and establishing and leading data analytics and clinical informatics teams for Dell Medical school. His work on integrating electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) with the EHR won the CIO 100 award, and he has helped organizations achieve Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) recognition and HealthCare’s Most Wired Certified Performance Excellence awards.
Dr. Tariq is passionate about using health information technology to drive performance improvement and deliver quality healthcare. His areas of expertise are clinical information system design & optimization, digital health innovation, data analytics, and health IT workforce development.
