John Butler

John Butler is a Clinical Associate Professor of Finance in the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin and the Secretary/Treasurer of the INFORMS Decision Analysis Society. He has taught courses in Global Energy Transactions, Financial Strategies, Financial Valuation, and an Energy Finance Practicum.
His research interests involve the use of decision science models to support decision-making, with a particular emphasis on decision and risk analysis models with multiple performance criteria. John has consulted with a number of organizations regarding the application of decision analysis tools to a variety of practical problems. Most of his consulting projects involve use of Visual Basic for Applications and Excel to implement complex decision science models in a user-friendly format.
Prior to joining the University of Texas, Dr. Butler taught at Tulane University and The Ohio State University. For his teaching and research, he has been honored with the MBA Applause Award in 2008 and 2011 and was a finalist for the 2004 INFORMS Franz Edelman Award for Outstanding Practice.
