Constantinos Coutifaris
Assistant Professor
Department: Management
Research Areas: Organizational Culture
Constantinos Coutifaris is an assistant professor of management in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He studies how leaders and employees shape the stability and adaptability of organizational and team culture from the top down and bottom up.
In one stream of research, Coutifaris explores the dynamic nature of culture. Specifically, he focuses on how leaders and employees contribute to the adaptability of team culture by changing team culture, and contribute to its stability by taking responsibility for the culture and newcomers’ experience of it. In a second stream of research, he examines how leader mindsets toward adaptability and stability have far-reaching implications for individual behavior, organizational culture, performance, and change. His work has been published in Organization Science, Academy of Management Journal, and Research in Organizational Behavior. He is also an academic advisory board member of the Berkeley Culture Initiative.
He received a Ph.D. in organizational behavior and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.S. in economics and philosophy from Haverford College. Before his doctoral studies at Wharton, Coutifaris spent eight years in the financial services industry, most recently leading turnarounds of industrial organizations.
