David Linton is a finance lecturer at The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business. He teaches courses on investment management.
Linton has extensive experience as an economist and asset manager. He currently works as a director and portfolio manager at PayPal, where he invests and co-manages the company’s dollar-denominated corporate and customer cash. Previously, he was the director of portfolio construction and manager research at Pacific Life, and a vice president and portfolio manager at PIMCO.
Linton has authored two books. His first book, “Foundations of Investment Management,” is a reader-friendly guide that bridges the gap between an academic understanding and the practical application of investment management strategies. In 2023, he published “Crushed: How Student Debt Has Impaired a Generation and What to Do About It,” which explores how the student debt crisis has developed, and how it affects graduates, universities, and American society.
Linton earned an MBA in analytic finance and economics from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. He also holds dual B.A. and B.S. degrees in business, finance, and investment management from the University of Southern California.
