Dave Martin is an assistant professor of instruction in finance at the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He has taught courses focused on international finance and on financial management in the capstone case course.
He is currently the chief financial officer of NEOTech, and past positions include CFO at Dimensional Fund Advisors LP in Austin, CFO at Janus Capital Group Inc. in Denver, and senior vice president, finance, at Charles Schwab & Co. Inc. in San Francisco. He is also an investor in Mseven8 VC and W Capital Partners.
Martin serves on the board and chairs the audit committee of the Northern Funds/Northern Institutional Funds (Northern Trust funds). He chairs the Zilker Botanical Garden Conservancy and serves on the Austin Community Foundation Investment Committee. He coaches in the Westlake High School incubator program.
With a 40-year career spanning asset management, banking, brokerage, retail, real estate, and manufacturing, Martin brings broad experience to the classroom. He tries to demonstrate for his students how to apply financial theories to address career problems. A passionate mentor, Martin advises students to value teamwork, to find a business culture that fits with their values, and to guard their integrity.
Martin earned an MBA in finance at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was tied for first in his class, and a B.S. in mathematical sciences, with distinction, at Stanford University.
