Julia Coronado is a clinical associate professor of finance at The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business. She has taught macroeconomics to MBA students since 2018 and serves as the associate director and consultant for the school’s real estate center. The Texas Real Estate Center aims to facilitate cutting-edge research in finance, real estate, law, design, and planning, and to give students the opportunity to connect and learn from industry professionals.

Coronado is also president and co-founder of MacroPolicy Perspectives LLC, which leverages the expertise of former senior officials at the Federal Reserve and the Department of the Treasury. Prior to joining the McCombs faculty, Coronado spent eight years working for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., where she contributed to the forecasts of the Federal Open Market Committee. She has also served as the chief economist for Graham Capital Management LP.

Coronado has researched and published papers on pension finances and market valuations, social security, retirement saving adequacy and behavior, the frontier of private and public data collection, and monetary policy.

For her expertise on economics and market issues, Coronado has been brought onto advisory boards for the Economic Advisory Panel of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Economic Studies Council at the Brookings Institution, and advisory boards of the Bureau of Economic Analysis, among others. Coronado has also represented the United States at meetings of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on financial market issues and was asked to testify before Congress about Social Security reform in 2005. For her work and experience in the field of finance, she has been quoted in several news outlets, such as The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.

Coronado graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a B.A. in economics in 1991, and in 1997 she earned a Ph.D. in economics from The University of Texas at Austin.
