Lisa Dobias
Associate Professor of Instruction

Lisa Dobias is an associate professor of instruction in marketing for The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business. She has an extensive history with the University, founding and directing the Texas Media & Analytics program as well as teaching courses in the Stan Richards School of Advertising & Public Relations on a wide range of communications topics. For McCombs, she teaches graduate workshops on client management, agency best practices, qualitative research, and presenting and pitching. She also teaches short courses on clients, consulting, and communication.
Dobias’ experience with the University extends far beyond teaching, as she has served as the Texas Ad Group/AAF faculty mentor and as a member of various committees, including the Richards School Extended Budget Council, the Richards School Strategic Communication Initiative, and the Moody Faculty Mentoring Program, among many others. She is an AAF National Student Ad Competition supporting faculty member and has worked with Texas Global on study abroad programs.
In addition to her academic career, Dobias has extensive industry experience as a former ad agency account manager and media strategist, as well as an independent communications consultant, where she specializes in strategy, change management, and building strong brand communities. Her client roster includes multinational advertisers such as Tropicana, local retail advertisers such as Melvin Simon & Associates, and high-tech, business-to-business advertisers such as Motorola. She has also worked as an account manager for Young & Rubicam and as a media supervisor for Us Creative. Dobias is also co-owner of Hill Country Bee company and co-author of the textbook, Advertising Media Planning: A Brand Management Approach 5th Edition.
Dobias has formal training in math and writing education from Concordia University Texas and earned a B.S. in advertising from The University of Texas at Austin.
