Marius Ring is an assistant professor in the Department of Finance at The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business. He teaches courses on valuation.
His research explores topics as diverse as households’ savings decisions, how taxation affects household decision-making, and entrepreneurship. His most recent research considers the causal effects of capital taxation (in the form of a wealth tax) on households’ saving, labor supply, and charitable giving behavior. In forthcoming work, he studies what happens when entrepreneurs who also own public equity lose money in their stock market portfolios. He finds that their private companies receive less financing, undertake fewer investments, and effectively reduce their employment growth by curtailing hiring, but there is no evidence that the affected companies fire their workers.
Ring has work experience from a quant hedge fund based in North Carolina and an M&A advisory firm based in Düsselorf, Germany.
He earned Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in finance at Northwestern University. Prior to that, he completed an M.A. in economics at Duke University. Ring holds a B.Sc. in economics and business administration from the Norwegian School of Economics.
